Frosted Eyeshadow: The Celeb-Approved Makeup Trend Back From The Dead

When you think of frosted eyeshadow, you probably envision big '90s hair and Calvin Klein jeans. After all, the decade definitely had a lot of beauty and fashion hits, and there's a reason trends from the era keep coming back. Summer 2023 was all about neoncore's revival, but now, another trend from the past has returned. Enter frosted eyeshadow, which has been approved by celebs like the hottie herself, Megan Thee Stallion. (Do we even need to say more?) In January, the rapper showed off a set of gorgeous lids painted with sky-blue eyeshadow on Instagram, and they caught our eye because they were so '90s but with a modern twist.

Of course, blue isn't the only frosted eyeshadow shade out there, even if it is the most popular. Those who prefer subtler hues can go the pastel or soft metallic route. In fact, last November, makeup artist to the stars Nikki Wolff showed off a shimmery silver shade on Dua Lipa's eyes that complemented the singer's fiery Cherry Cola red hair on Instagram, perhaps predicting the trend's resurgence in popularity.

So, if you love your makeup to shine, now is the time to dig out your frosted shadows, bring back the retro look, and dance the night away, as Lipa would say.

Frosted blue eyeshadow is the truest way to revive the trend

Icy blue eyeshadow dominated the early 2000s and was seen on practically every pop star, from Christina Aguilera to Jennifer Lopez. If you're feeling nostalgic, swipe some frosted blue shadow onto your lids, but if you want to keep the look modern, don't bring the color past your crease. For a pop of highlight, add a white shimmer to the inner corners of your eyes.

Icy blue eyeshadow makes any cut-crease pop

To perfect the cut-crease eyeshadow technique, you need a light-colored shadow on your lids. Usually, a matte bone shade is used, but why not try a frosted finish? The shimmer will add extra allure to your eyes while making the cut crease stand out even more. Don't forget a perfectly winged cat eye drawn with your fave liquid liner.

Enhance your villainous makeup with frosted eyeshadow

Some days, you're the princess, and others, you feel like the villain (in the best way). Purple and blue eyeshadow make the perfect Disney villain combo (Ursula, anyone?), especially when they're enhanced with shimmer on the inner half of your lids. Adding tiny rhinestones over your liner will only make your eyes even more mesmerizing, letting you lure anyone in with your gaze.

Gold and silver frosted eyeshadow

Silver and gold aren't just for Christmas. Combine these colors for a dreamy shimmery look with a pale gold on your top lids and a swipe of silver on the bottom. Keep the rest of your eye makeup simple, but don't forget a coat or two of mascara to help the shadows pop. For added sparkle, dust the silver shadow on the bridge of your nose and cupid's bow.

Neon shimmer unites the '80s and '90s

Who says frosted eyeshadow has to be subtle? Go bold with a neon pink shimmer shadow, which is beautifully and nostalgically reminiscent of the '80s, even if you weren't yet born then. Create a dramatic cat eye by extending the outer corners for a more modern take. For some contrast, highlight your lids with frosted white or silver shadow, and if you crave more drama, apply delicate crystals above your lids. You're bound to get lots of admiring looks.
