5 Celebrity Kids Who Borrowed Iconic Vintage Outfits From Their Famous Parents

Over the past couple of decades, we've witnessed how fashion and beauty trends always come back — whether it's the '90s skinny fringe or the most memorable styles of Y2K fashion. And for the kids of the rich and famous, this means that what their parents have rocked in the '90s and 2000s is something that's very on trend right now. Of course, with stars like Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek being their mothers, these kids have the ultimate designer closets to borrow from (something we could only dream of).

So, instead of dwelling on the fact that we have no access to vintage Alexander McQueen and Elie Saab pieces, we decided to take a closer look at the teens who do. From Shiloh and Zahara Jolie-Pitt to Apple Martin, these young Gen-Zers have not only chosen to embrace sustainable fashion by going for already-worn pieces, but they have also shown that you don't need to splurge to look cool. Sometimes, all you need to do is raid your mom's or grandma's closet.

Shiloh rocked a Dior dress straight out of Angelina Jolie's closet

For the premiere of Angelina Jolie's movie "Eternals" in London in 2021, her 15-year-old daughter borrowed a look from the star's closet. Shiloh Jolie-Pitt confidently re-wore one of her mom's Dior dresses and we couldn't help but instantly think of how much she takes after her famous mother. Angelina had previously worn the black-and-white dress at a press conference for "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil" in 2019, and while the actor pulled the look off effortlessly, we have to admit that her daughter is giving her stylish mother a run for her money.

The Hollywood star has admitted that she enjoys it when her children borrow clothes from her closet. "I'm like, 'Oh my god, wear it and wear it better than me! Take it, it's your turn,'" Angelina admitted to E! News. "I'm that mom." There's no denying that the mother-daughter duo has always shared a close bond, but with Shiloh's choice to rock her mom's dress, it's also become clear that the two share the same love for fashion.

Zahara is also no stranger to finding pieces she likes in her mother's closet

Shiloh isn't the only Jolie-Pitt child who loves rocking their mom's clothes. The eldest daughter in the family, Zahara Jolie-Pitt, has also rocked one of Angelina Jolie's designer pieces. For the Los Angeles premiere of "Eternals," the then 16-year-old pulled out Angelina's iconic 2014 Oscars gown designed by Elie Saab.

"My kids are all mixed with vintage and in my old Oscars dress," the actor admitted to Entertainment Tonight on the carpet that day. "We did all vintage and upcycled my old stuff." There's no denying that the Jolie-Pitt siblings all have incredible style. "Shiloh loves music, dance, acting, and lately, thanks to her sister Zahara, fashion. It wasn't always like that, but now she loves dressing up in her mom's clothes," a source revealed to Life & Style in 2021. "Zahara is the real fashionista in the family." Needless to say, we can't wait to see what else the two sisters borrow from their mother's closet!

Catherine Zeta-Jones' daughter Carys rocked her mom's dress for her 21st birthday

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas' daughter Carys Douglas celebrated her 21st birthday in April 2024, and for the occasion she decided to go for a stunning silk dress with embroidered floral and lace detailing straight from her mother's '90s closet. We first got to see the whimsical Ungaro dress on Zeta-Jones in 1999 at the MTV Movie Awards.

The mother-and-daughter duo have a very close relationship, and the actor gave us a glimpse into their bond by sharing a heartfelt birthday message for her daughter on Instagram. "You are the joy of my life. 21 years of watching you blossom in to the most incredible woman you are today is a God given gift that I never take for granted and cherish every day of my life," Zeta-Jones wrote. And Carys' decision to wear something vintage from her mom's closet for such an important birthday only underscores the importance of their relationship.

Apple Martin showed off just how stunning Gwyneth Paltrow's aughts Oscars dress is

In 2023, Gwyneth Paltrow shared a photo of her and Chris Martin's then 19-year-old daughter Apple on her Instagram stories, responding to a follower asking whether her daughter ever wears pieces from her fashion archive. In the photo, Apple was posing in Paltrow's infamous 2002 Alexander McQueen Adacemy Awards dress.

At the time, many declared the dress a major fashion miss. In hindsight, Paltrow admitted in 2013 that she doesn't regret the fashion moment. However, if she could, she would have changed one thing. "The goth Alexander McQueen I wore a few years later. There were a few issues," the star admitted (via Today). "I still love the dress itself, but I should have worn a bra and I should have just had simple beachy hair and less makeup. Then, it would have worked as I wanted it to — a little bit of punk at the Oscars." Of course, when the dress resurfaced in 2023 on Apple — perhaps at the peak of the '90s goth revival — all we could see was how stunning and timeless the McQueen creation was.

Salma Hayek's daughter Valentina Paloma looks just as stunning in her mother's red velvet gown

Salma Hayek wowed us all in 1997 with the breathtaking strapless red velvet Isaac Mizrahi gown that she chose for the Annual Fire & Ice Charity Ball. Two and a half decades later, her and François-Henri Pinault's 16-year-old daughter Valentina Paloma wore the exact same gown to the Academy Awards while accompanying her famous mother. Valentina Paloma is Hayek's only child, and the actor has previously opened up about how close they are. "I only have one daughter and that has been ... the most incredible experience I have had in my life and I have done a lot," the star admitted in 2008 (via People).

While she's been in the spotlight since her birth, we have no doubt that we'll see a lot more of Valentina Paloma in the future, especially as Hayek's daughter loves fashion and beauty. "I love makeup, I have a lot of it, but I don't do it to be very pretty or because I want to remove imperfections," she told Vogue Mexico in 2022. "Sometimes I don't want to apply concealer because I think dark circles add something else. I like to wear makeup in lots of colors and, I don't know, I like to explore it." And something tells us she might just go into her mom's closet for a look or two again.
